Natasha Virani

Registered Therapeutic Counsellor

Association of Cooperative Counselling Therapists

Natasha is a Registered Therapeutic Counsellor with the Association of Cooperative Counselling Therapists. She graduated from Clearmind International Institute in Vancouver, BC through the Transpersonal Counselling Psychology Program. Clearmind is one of a select few schools in North America whose 3-year training program focuses on experiential learning and personal development of the individual. Before attending Clearmind, Natasha graduated with a Masters in Teaching from Griffith University in Brisbane, Australia, and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from The University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario.

From a very young age, Natasha realized her life-long goal of “helping people”, but she didn’t know how she would complete this task. Originally, because of her intrigue in science, Natasha went to school to become a doctor. After learning that, perhaps being a doctor was not her calling, Natasha decided to leave the cold of Ontario and head to a sunnier destination - Brisbane, Australia. There, Natasha completed her Masters in Teaching and learned how to surf. Upon returning to Canada, Natasha wrote her Masters thesis – a piece of Action Research on whether ESL students should be learning in an integrated classroom or in a separate space, and started working immediately as a teacher.   Natasha has been a registered teacher for 19 years with the BC Federation of Teachers and has been teaching in both the public and Independent School districts. She is passionate about working with children to help them realize their potential and become the leaders of tomorrow.  Having been instilled with a desire for life-long learning, Natasha researched counselling while she was teaching because she wanted to have the appropriate background to do what she was already doing as a teacher. After attending one Clearmind lecture, Natasha was hooked. She knew that the program Clearmind offered was the one for her. She signed up right before opening weekend and the rest is history. Natasha has never been one to complete anything in a conventional manner when she and her husband welcomed their daughter into the world during her second year of PRAC. Natasha just decided to complete the program and took Tahliyah with her to class, with determination and inner fortitude. Having experienced a number of feelings post-partum, Natasha felt her direction would be geared to supporting mums, particularly new ones.

My Approach

No matter what your struggle is, you deserve support and care. I can help you become aware of your patterns and understand your situation so that you can make decisions that are right for you. My vision is to support you in becoming aware of your belief systems, developing an understanding of where these beliefs stem from and helping you make a choice to do something different. Our struggles present themselves as roadblocks and when we shift our perspective, they can be seen as opportunities for growth and expansion for our relationships, the world, and ourselves.

I value counselling that is caring, non-judgmental, guided by curiosity and supportive of you and your individual goals. I am passionate about working with women on the perinatal mental health spectrum in addition to individuals looking to grow their family using assisted reproductive technology. My therapeutic approach is a multiple disciplinary one; which includes your spirituality, family systems theory, cognitive and Gestalt therapies. We will take into consideration your spiritual beliefs and work with them throughout our sessions. Family systems theory involves exploring your family history, using a genogram (similar to a family tree), to look at how patterns in your history relate to your current situation. My approach is based on cognitive behaviour therapy, which works on the premise that it is our thoughts that cause feelings and behaviours not external factors such as people, situations, or events. Lastly, Gestalt therapy is an experiential technique that allows you to feel, act and be in the present moment. This creative technique brings about an awareness of what you are currently doing in life situations.   Through the use of these approaches, and an empathetic ear rooting from my own lived experience with miscarriage and infetility, we will look at the driving force behind your patterns and explore different options and perspectives. The counselling process is an opportunity to correct mistaken beliefs and develop an understanding of self and other in order to invite connection and love. Ultimately, as my client, you bring the content and set the pace for the course of our work together. I am here to support and facilitate you to reach your goals, and you are responsible for your progress.
